Collection of Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza


The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is an art museum located in Madrid, Spain.  The museum is home to two collections and over 1,000 pieces of art ranging from the thirteenth century to late twentieth century.  The museum features works of Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism, and experimental avant-garde movements.  Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza are principally responsible for the existence of the original collection.  In 2004, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, the personal collection of Carmen Cervera, was loaned to the museum.  Masterpieces on display at the Thyssen include pieces by Van Dyck, Durer, Caravaggio, Rubens, Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Matisse and Kandinsky among others.
