Collection of Offentliche Kunstsammlung, Kunstmuseum Basel


The Kunstmuseum Basel is a public art collection located in Basel, Switzerland.  The museum was established in 1662 by the city of Basel and the university.  The main focus of the museum is paintings and drawings by artists active in the Upper Rhine area between 1400 and 1600 as well as the nineteenth and twentiethp> century.  The Kunstmuseum holds the largest collection of works produced by the Holbein family.  Other notable artists featured in the museum include Rubens, Rembrandt, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Manet, Monet, Gauguin, Cezanne, and Van Gogh
