Collection of Centraal Museum

The Centraal Museum is an art museum located in Utrecht, The Netherlands.  Founded in 1838, the museum was initially dedicated solely to art related to the city of Utrecht.  In 1921, the collection merged with a number of private collections in a new “centralized museum” thus the name Centraal Museum.  The collection now comprises pre-1850 art, modern art, applied art, fashion, and the city history of Utrecht.  One of the highlights of the museum is the collection of paintings by Utrecht Caravaggians such as Gerard van Honthorst and Hendrick ter Brugghen.
